whats wrong with a kid getting a gun as a gift?
as long as the kid is shown how to use the gun safely.

the only problems come when a child has access to a gun but is never shown how to use it and the parent does not take proper safety precautions like a trigger lock, a lock box and keeping the ammo and the gun separate.

I have a 2 year old and when she is old enough I will take her to a range, teach her proper gun safety and how to shoot.

When we talk about guns, violence strikes our mind so maybe parents do not want to make their young kids become violent and its true if a kid is handed a violent instrument he’ll try to experiment with that toy and obviously the kid will not take the gun as a toy duck. The kid should understand the difference between a toy gun used for hobby and a real gun to be used under the supervision of elders.

In my opinion, the love of arms is only movies, action movies. It was after them, in children a desire to shooter. Therefore, we must not allow children to watch movies in this genre.

I agree with California Free mls, there were parents who were actually sensitive with things that they gave to their kids. Toy guns are not that bad gift to our children as long as we provide them with proper guidance. Basically, there are many factors that can affect kid’s attitude toward the things around them. It also depends on the way that adults would raise their young.

I actually just posted the ad because I think it’s funny, compared to what would fly today in our politically correct advertising world. Glad to see it sparked some conversation! My family is from Wyoming/western Nebraska where everybody learned to shoot.

This ad instantly makes me think of Christmas Story. You’ll shoot your eye out kid!

I had a BB gun when I was that age. I stopped playing with it after killing my first squirrel…

    That look is indeed priceless.

Living in the countryside of NW Ohio for some time,I had the opportunity to understand that hunting was part of bringing food on the table.
But living in a city like do now, the picture could be interpreted a much different way.
